The Police have arrested a 23-year-old man believed to be involved in a case of Theft of Motor Vehicle.

 

On 15 August 2016 at about 6.15 pm, a 23-year-old man reported that his motorcycle was missing from an open air carpark beside Block 529 Bedok North Street 3 after he forgot to remove the keys from the ignition. The missing motorcycle was subsequently recovered by the Police at Peck Seah Street on 18 August 2016.

 

Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of police cameras, officers from Bedok Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him at Pasir Ris Street 71 on 7 September 2016.  

 

The suspect will be charged in Court on 9 September 2016 with the offence of Theft of Motor Vehicle under Section 379A of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 7 years and shall also be liable to a fine. The suspect could also be disqualified from all classes in Singapore for a period of time.

 

The Police would like to advise all motorcycle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

a)     Remove the ignition key from your motorcycle after you have turned off the engine;

b)     Park your motorcycle in well-lit areas;

c)     Install an anti-theft alarm for your vehicle;

d)     Use a motorcycle canvas to cover the motorcycle, securing both ends; and

e)     Use additional locking devices such as disc brake locks or install a suspension guard.
