The Police have arrested a 19-year-old man for his suspected involvement in two cases of loanshark harassment.

 

On 6 September 2016, the Police received a report that loanshark related graffiti were found scrawled on the lift landing wall of the affected unit in Admiralty Drive. Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Ang Mo Kio Division and Jurong Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him along Yishun Ave 7 on 9 September 2016.

 

The suspect is also believed to be involved in a separate loanshark harassment case where paint was splashed and loanshark related graffiti were found scrawled on the wall of a residential unit along Fajar Road.

 

Two black-ink markers, one bottle of paint, a face mask, a sling bag, some clothing and a mobile phone were seized as case exhibits. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to have carried out similar acts of harassment in Yishun, Serangoon, Jurong West and Ghim Moh housing estates.  

 

The suspect will be charged in Court on 10 September 2016 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
