Police have arrested four men aged between 21 and 29, for their suspected involvement in a series of cheating cases.

On 11 September 2016, Police received several reports on cases of cheating involving the pawning of fake ‘The Perth Mint Australia’ gold bars. Upon receipt of the reports, officers from Ang Mo Kio and Tanglin Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and managed to establish the identities of the four suspects, who were subsequently arrested. Cash amounting to S$1000/- was seized as case exhibit. Preliminary investigations revealed that the four men are believed to be involved in several other similar cases of cheating.

The four suspects will be charged in Court on 15 Sep 2016 with the offence of Cheating, which carries an imprisonment for a term which may extend to 10 years and a fine.

The Police would like to advise pawnshop owners to be vigilant against similar ruses, check and verify the identities of individuals who pawn items at their business premises, including their guarantors. Pawnshop owners are also encouraged to carry out detailed examination of the items to be pawned before making any transactions.
