A 23-year-old male motorcyclist will be charged in Court with the offence of Dangerous Riding on 15 September 2016.

During a Traffic Police (TP) operation conducted along Yishun Ave 1 on 6 July 2016, the motorcyclist was spotted to be riding against the flow of traffic. When approached by officers, the motorcyclist made a U-turn and was believed to have travelled at about 167 km/h, well exceeding the road speed limit of 50 km/h. The motorcyclist was subsequently arrested by the Police on the same day at about 3.20am at the junction of Yishun Ave 1 and Seletar West Link.

Motorists caught for dangerous driving, upon conviction, shall be liable to a fine not exceeding $3,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months, or both and in the case of a second or subsequent conviction, to a fine not exceeding $5,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years, or both. The man will also be liable for the offences of Failing to obey indicating sign under Section 120(4) of the Road Traffic Act, Chapter 276 and Riding without headlamp(s) under Rule 5(1) Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Lighting) Rules.

TP takes a serious view of such dangerous road behaviour and will continue with our enforcement efforts to take such errant motorists to task.
