The Police have arrested a 34-year-old man suspected to be involved in a case of housebreaking and theft at a restaurant in Robertson Quay.

On 28 May 2016 at about 3.30 pm, the Police received a report that a restaurant in Robertson Quay was broken into and a painting as well as several bottles of liquor with a total value of about $828 were stolen.

Through extensive ground enquiries and investigations, officers from Tanglin Division established the identity of the suspect. On 22 September 2016 at about 4.00 pm, the suspect was detained at Woodlands Checkpoint and arrested.

The suspect will be charged in the State Courts on 24 September 2016 with an offence of Housebreaking and Theft by Night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which is punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 14 years.

The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grills and close-shackled padlocks when leaving your shop unattended, even for a short while;

  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash in commercial premises; and

  • Install a burglar alarm and CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
