The Police have arrested two men, aged 19 and 20, for their suspected involvement in separate cases of snatch theft at Jurong West St 65 and Sungei Kadut Way respectively.

 

In the first case that took place on 15 June 2016 at about 7 pm, a 14-year-old girl reported that her handphone was snatched away by an unknown man at a playground located at Jurong West St 65.

 

Upon receipt of the report, officers from Jurong Division conducted extensive follow-up investigations and established the identity of the suspect with the aid of images from Police cameras (POLCAM). The suspect was eventually arrested at Woodlands Checkpoint on 18 October 2016 at about 2 pm.

 

In the second case on 13 October 2016 at about 2.30 am, a 24-year-old man was walking along Sungei Kadut Way when an unknown man snatched his mobile phone and fled. The victim gave chase but lost sight of the suspect eventually.

 

Upon receipt of the report, officers from Jurong Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and established the identity of the suspect, who was subsequently arrested on 18 October 2016 at about 11.20 am. The Police also recovered the mobile phone that was allegedly stolen from the 24-year-old male victim.

 

Both suspects will be charged in Court on 20 October 2016 with the offence of Snatch Theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which is punishable with imprisonment for a term of not less than one year and not more than 7 years and shall also be liable to caning.
