The Police have arrested a 29-year-old man who is believed to be involved in a case of House-breaking by night at Block 556 Bedok North Street 3.
On 1 November 2016 at about 3.04 am, the Police received a call from a woman reporting that someone had entered her home and fled when confronted. Upon receipt of the report, officers from Bedok Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and swiftly established the identity of the suspect. He was subsequently arrested at 11 pm on the same day, within 24 hours of the report.
The suspect will be charged in Court on 3 November 2016 with an offence of House-breaking by night to commit theft under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries an imprisonment term which may extend to 5 years, and shall also be liable to fine; and if the offence intended to be committed is theft, the term of the imprisonment shall be not less than 2 years and not more than 14 years.
The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures against break-ins:

Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grills and close-shackled padlocks before retiring to bed or when leaving your shop/home unattended, even for a short while;

Refrain from keeping large sums of cash in commercial premises; and
- Install a burglar alarm and CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
