The Police have arrested a 47-year-old man who is believed to be involved in a case of Housebreaking by Night.

On 28 October 2016 at 9.12am, the Police received a report regarding a break-in at a childcare centre along Still Road South where some money was found to be missing. Officers from Bedok Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of CCTV images, the identity of the suspect was established. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is also believed to be involved in another case of housebreaking along Aroozoo Avenue. Through a collaboration with Ang Mo Kio Division, the suspect was arrested on 3 November 2016 along Kallang Road.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 5 November 2016 with an offence of Housebreaking by Night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries an imprisonment term which may extend to 5 years, and shall also be liable to fine; and if the offence intended to be committed is theft, the term of the imprisonment shall be not less than 2 years and not more than 14 years.

The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures against break-ins:

  • Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grills and close-shackled padlocks when leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while;

  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash in commercial premises; and

  • Install a burglar alarm and CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
