The Police have arrested a 17-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of Outrage of Modesty at Blk 183D Rivervale Crescent.

 

On 31 October 2016, a female victim reported to the Police that she was molested in the lift by an unknown man.

 

Through extensive ground enquiries and investigations, officers from Ang Mo Kio Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him on 1 November 2016.

 

Investigations are ongoing. Any person found guilty of the offence of Outrage of Modesty under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, is liable for a jail term of up to 2 years, or with fine, caning, or any combination of such punishments, upon conviction.

 

   The Police would like to advise members of the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Be aware and alert of your surroundings. If you see any suspicious character, or you suspect that you are being followed, remain calm and proceed to a crowded area or call the Police for assistance.

  • When entering the lift alone, stay close to the lift button panel. Press “Door Open” and step out immediately when a stranger rushes in as the lift door is closing; and

  • If you are molested, immediately shout for help. Take note of the description of the suspect, as well as the direction and mode of escape taken. Call ‘999’ as soon as it is safe to do so.
