The Traffic Police (TP) and Singapore Road Safety Council (SRSC), supported by Shell Companies in Singapore, Bukit Batok Driving Centre, ComfortDelGro Driving Centre, and Singapore Safety Driving Centre, held the 36th Shell Traffic Games prize-giving ceremony on Friday, 4 November 2016 at St Hilda’s Primary School. Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of Education & Ministry of Social and Family Development, graced the event as the Guest-of-Honour.

This event marked the closing of the 36th Shell Traffic Games, which included fun and interactive training sessions for primary school children to educate them on road safety.

90 primary schools participated in the preliminary rounds of the games which were held from 2 to 24 May 2016. Eight schools made it to the finals to compete for the Shell Challenge Trophy and other prizes. Pioneer Primary School emerged as the champion of the 36th Shell Traffic Games.

The annual event also saw the simultaneous launch of the Shell Road Safety Corners at Zhenghua Primary School, Qihua Primary School and Gan Eng Seng Primary School. This is a follow up to a pilot initiative which started at St Hilda’s Primary School[1] last year. The road safety corners are a collaborative effort by TP, SRSC, Shell and the primary schools to educate both students and parents on good road safety practices.

TP and SRSC also worked with students from Nanyang Polytechnic to develop the Road Safety Community Park mobile application. Technology partner Samsung sponsored the mobile handsets that is going to be used for the training sessions at the Road Safety Community Park for students. This new mobile application aims to educate the students in an easy, fun and interactive manner. The application can allow users to scan QR codes at designated places, in exchange for road safety tips and advisories.

All road users should adopt good RoadSense by staying vigilant, adhering to traffic rules and looking out for one another. Let’s stay safe on the roads and make sure we make it back to our loved ones.

[1]All four schools cover the four sectors of Singapore: Zhenghua Primary (West Zone), Qihua Primary (North Zone), Gan Eng Seng Primary (South Zone), and St Hilda’s Primary (East Zone).
