The Police are investigating a 19-year-old woman believed to have lodged a false report.

On 6 September 2016 at 11.24 pm, the 19-year-old woman lodged a police report at Choa Chu Kang Neighbourhood Police Centre stating that she was grabbed by two unknown men while en route to work at Sunset Way. Following the report, officers from Jurong and Clementi Division conducted extensive enquires and follow-up investigations. The woman also led police officers to the alleged crime scene.

Upon further checks and with the aid of CCTV footages, it was revealed that that the woman’s allegations were baseless and she admitted that she had lodged a false report.

She will be charged in Court on 15 November 2016 with the offence of Providing False Information to a Public Servant under Section 182 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, the accused will face an imprisonment term which may extend to 1 year or a fine which may extend to $5000, or both.

The Police would like to remind the public that Police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false Police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
