The Police are investigating a 30-year-old man for lodging a false report.

On 11 December 2016 at about 10.35 pm, the man called “999” and alleged that an unknown man on a motorcycle had assaulted him and robbed him of his valuables before fleeing.

During the course of investigations, several inconsistencies were detected and it was established that the man had provided false information to the Police and was not a victim of the alleged crime.

Investigations against the man are ongoing. Anyone convicted for giving any information which he or she knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.

The Police would like to remind the public that Police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false Police reports or provide false information will be dealt with under the law.
