The Police are aware of reports lodged by members of the public who have received letters purportedly sent by a Police officer. The letters had required its recipients to report at Central Police Division on 20 December 2016 to assist in investigations into “an offence of Public Nuisance committed at Cantonment Police Division on 28 November 2016.” The letters were also signed off by an “INSP Wong Ka Wei, Senior Investigation Officer, Central Police Division”.
These letters were not issued by the Police. There is no Cantonment Police Division within the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and there is also no officer by the name of INSP Wong Ka Wei from Central Police Division.
If in doubt, members of the public may verify the authenticity of such letters by contacting the respective Police divisions (www.police.gov.sg/content/contact-us).
