The Singapore Police Force has organised a series of five Police Community Roadshows in the heartlands from November to December. These roadshows aimed to raise awareness on police work with the emphasis on three areas: Real Work That Matters, Equipped to Succeed, and Community Leaders. Please refer to Annex A for details of the roadshows.

The final roadshow was held at Woodlands Civic Centre from 17 to 18 December 2016 and members of the public were able to view equipment used by the frontline policing officers upfront, and experience the investigative work done by police officers, including fingerprint dusting using the Fingerprinting Kit. They also learnt more about policing work through the various exhibitions and demonstrations. Please refer to Annex B for the highlights of the roadshows.

Mr Khaw Boon Wan, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Minister for Transport, Member of Parliament of Sembawang GRC graced the event as the Guest-of-Honour on 17 December 2016.

At the roadshow, Jurong Division also recognised nine Citizens-On-Patrol (COP) groups for their commitment and dedication to keep the community safe. The COP initiative was established in tandem with the Neighbourhood Watch Zone Scheme which started in April 1997. The scheme has steadily grown over the years to over 700 COP groups with more than 8000 members islandwide.

Prior to the award ceremony, more than 100 COP members attended an SGSecure training workshop at Woodlands Community Club. During the workshop, the members learnt how to identify and report suspicious behaviours and activities, as well as trained on what to do in the event of an attack, such as the ‘Run-Hide-Tell’ protocol.

Members of the public are encouraged to find out how they can play their part in the SGSecure movement  at https://www.sgsecure.gov.sg/ so that together, we can keep Singapore safe and secure.
