The Traffic Police have arrested a 53-year-old man for an offence of Rash Act Causing Death pertaining to a road traffic accident involving four cars, one motorcycle and one private bus which occurred on 19 December 2016 at about 8am along AYE (Tuas) before the underpass leading to Tuas Checkpoint.

 

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was travelling along AYE towards Tuas Checkpoint where he was believed to have made a U-turn and travelled against the flow of traffic along AYE (Tuas). He then collided into several vehicles. As a result of the accident, a 37-year-old man died at the scene and four others were conveyed to the National University Hospital.

 

Investigations are ongoing. Anyone convicted for the offence of Rash Act Causing Death under Section 304A(a) of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, shall be liable to imprisonment for a term which may extend to 5 years, or shall also be liable to fine, or both.

 

The Traffic Police would like to appeal to the public not to circulate the photos or videos of the deceased, in respect of the family.
