The Police have arrested a 44-year-old man for a series of cheating cases involving taxi drivers.
Between 2 and 17 December 2016, the Police received multiple reports against a man who had flagged for taxis and asked the taxi drivers to stop at a market before proceeding to his intended destination. He is then believed to have requested for a loan of between S$60/- and S$100/- from the taxi drivers, as he allegedly claimed that he had misplaced his wallet and did not have money to pay for his food. The suspect then alighted from the taxi without paying for the fare is and did not return to pay the borrowed sum of money.
Through extensive ground enquiries and follow-up investigations, officers from the Ang Mo Kio Division established the identity of the suspect. He was subsequently arrested along Marsiling Road on 20 December 2016.
The suspect will be charged in Court on 21 December 2016 with the offence of Cheating which is punishable with an imprisonment term which may extend to 10 years, and shall also be liable to fine.
