The Police have arrested a 25-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of attempted extortion.

 

On 20 December 2016, the 27-year-old female victim lodged a Police report stating that she received several email messages from a stranger, directing her to hand over S$20,000. In the course of the exchange, the stranger also forwarded to the victim a video of her in the bathroom, and threatened to circulate the video if she did not transfer the amount.

 

On receiving the report, officers from Jurong Division conducted extensive probes to establish the identity of the suspect and arrested him along Yung Ho Road on 21 Dec 2016.

The suspect will be charged in the Court on 23 December 2016 with an offence of Putting a Person in fear of harm or hurt to commit extortion, under Section 385 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. A person convicted under this section shall be punished for an imprisonment term of no less than 2 years and no more than 5 years and with caning.
