The Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) jointly organised the Delta League Grand Finals on 30 December 2016 (Friday) at the Jalan Besar Stadium. Mr Amrin Amin, Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs was the Guest-of-Honour for the event.

Largest Football Tournament For Youths In Singapore

Now into its 12th edition, the League is a national competition involving more than 2,000 players from 110 teams competing in three different age groups; the Under 16 Boys, Under 18 Boys and Girls categories. More than 320 matches were played during this December school holidays, making it the largest football competition for youths in Singapore.

The football tournament is held twice a year - during the June and December school holidays to keep the students meaningfully occupied during the long school holidays. This tournament is not all about play - Besides playing football, the youths were put through other activities designed to enhance their crime prevention awareness and inculcate in them a sense of social responsibility, teamwork and discipline.

One such activity was the Delta League Community Day held earlier this month. The youths became crime prevention ambassadors for the day and helped spread crime prevention advisory on youth gang and rioting to members of the public along Orchard Road, East Coast Park, Jurong Point and Causeway Point. It was a meaningful platform for the participants to have fun, learn about crime prevention and help to keep our neighbourhoods safe and secure.

To date, Delta League, which is supported by the Tote Board, Sport Singapore and the Football Association of Singapore, has benefited over 14,000 youths from all backgrounds.

Delta League Welcomes Female Participants

For the first time in its history, Delta League saw the participation of more than 240 female youths from 14 teams, in the 11-a-side tournament, reaching out effectively to female football enthusiasts, who are guided by female police officers assigned as their mentors.

The next edition of Delta League will be held during the June 2017 school holidays.
