The Police have arrested a 44-year-old man for his suspected involvement in loansharking activities.
On 2 January 2017, the Police received a report that a residential unit at Toa Payoh Lorong 4 had been splashed with paint and loanshark-related graffiti were also found scrawled on the wall. Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Tanglin Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him along Redhill Close on 3 January 2017.
The suspect will be charged in Court on 5 January 2017 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years and shall also be liable to a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory caning of not less than 3 and not more than 6 strokes.
