The Police have arrested a 44-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities.
On 21 January 2017, the Police received a report informing that the door of a residential unit at Circuit Road was splashed with paint. Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of Police Cameras (POLCAMs), officers from Bedok Division arrested both the suspects on 31 January 2017.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to be involved in several other loanshark harassment cases islandwide.
The man will be charged in Court on 1 February 2017 under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010). Investigations against the female are still ongoing. Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
