Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Khalid Bin Abu Bakar (Tan Sri Khalid) of the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) was conferred the Darjah Utama Bakti Cemerlang (Distinguished Service Order) by President Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam on 2 February 2017 at the Istana State Room. Prior to the conferment ceremony, Tan Sri Khalid paid a courtesy call on Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law K. Shanmugam and Commissioner of Police Hoong Wee Teck separately. Following his conferment, he also paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

Tan Sri Khalid was appointed as the Inspector-General of the RMP on 17 May 2013.  Over the years, he actively supported the establishment of extensive networks with his regional and international counterparts to combat transnational crime and terrorism. This is a reflection of his strong commitment to keep the region safe from crime and terror.

Tan Sri Khalid was conferred the Distinguished Service Order for his outstanding contribution in fostering excellent bilateral ties and cooperation between the RMP and the Singapore Police Force (SPF), which have enhanced the safety and security of both countries. Under his leadership, both Police Forces strengthened cooperation in fighting transnational crime, counter terrorism and training exchanges.

Highlighting the importance of international cooperation in the fight against terrorism and transnational crime, Commissioner of Police Hoong Wee Teck said: “The Singapore Police Force enjoys a strong working relationship with the Royal Malaysia Police which has been forged over many years through bilateral cooperation. The Singapore Police Force will continue to work closely with the Royal Malaysia Police in the fight against transnational crime and terrorism, to keep our countries safe and secure.”
