The Police are investigating a 52-year-old man who is believed to have lodged a false report.

On 11 February 2017 at about 12.00 pm, the 52-year-old man lodged a police report, alleging that he had received calls from an officer from the Central Narcotics Bureau seeking a bribe of S$10,000.

Officers from Jurong Division conducted immediate probes and detected several inconsistencies during the course of investigations. It was eventually established that he had provided false information to the Police.

Investigations against the man are ongoing. Anyone convicted for giving any Information which he or she knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.

The Police would like to remind the public that Police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false Police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
