The Police have arrested two men aged 22 and 23, for their suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking and theft at 304 Orchard Road.

 

On 12 February 2017 at about 9.33 am, the Police received a report that a food court at 304 Orchard Road was broken into and cash amounting $500 was stolen.

 

Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Tanglin Division established the identities of the two suspects and arrested them along Orchard Road on 13 February 2017.

 

The 23-year-old suspect will be charged in Court on 15 February 2017 with an offence of Housebreaking and Theft by Night with Common Intention under Section 457, read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 while investigations against the other suspect is on-going. If convicted, the suspect is liable to an imprisonment term of not less than 2 years and not more than 14 years and shall also be liable to a fine.

 

The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures against break-ins:

  • Ensure that all doors, windows and other openings are well secured with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks;

  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition; and

  • Keep large sums of cash in banks.
