A 37-year-old man has been arrested for Causing Death by Negligent Act on 16 February 2017, in relation to a road traffic accident that took place last year.

On 9 July 2016 at about 11.00 pm, an accident involving a bus and a pedestrian occurred at a pedestrian crossing along the junction of Woodlands Avenue 7 and Woodlands Avenue 2. As a result of the accident, the 80-year old pedestrian sustained injuries and passed away on 16 July 2016.

With the assistance of the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP), the suspect was arrested in Malaysia on 15 February 2017, pursuant to a warrant of arrest issued by the State Courts in Singapore. The suspect was subsequently handed over to the Traffic Police on 16 February 2017 and will be charged on 17 February with the offence of Causing Death by Negligent Act under Section 304A(b) of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he is liable to imprisonment which may extend to 2 years, or fine, or both.

Commander of the Traffic Police, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police, Sam Tee, expressed his appreciation to the RMP for their assistance in the arrest and said, “The arrest of the suspect was made possible through the strong support of the RMP, whom we share close ties with. The SPF will do its utmost to track down those who have committed crimes here and flee Singapore thereafter. With the assistance of our counterparts from foreign law enforcement agencies, we will ensure that justice is served.”
