The Police will be charging a 25-year-old woman for lodging a false report.

On 7 February 2017, the woman reported to the Police that an unknown man had snatched her mobile phone along Jurong West St 41. The male suspect was traced by officers from Jurong Division on 13 February 2017. Through follow-up investigations, it was revealed that the woman and the man were known to each other. The woman is believed to have lodged a false report following a dispute with the man.

The woman will be charged in Court on 20 February 2017 with the offence of providing false information to a public servant under Section 182 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 which is punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine which may extend to $5,000, or with both.

The Police would like to remind the public that Police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false Police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
