The Police have arrested two men aged 36 and 38 for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

 

On 16 February 2017, the Police received a report on loanshark harassment whereby paint was splashed at the front door and window of a residential unit at Taman Ho Swee. Loanshark-related graffiti were also found scrawled on the wall of the staircase landing near the unit. Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Tanglin Division established the identity of the two suspects. On 17 February 2017, the suspects were arrested in the vicinity of Jurong West Avenue 5 and Boon Tiong Road respectively.

 

The suspects will be charged in Court on 18 February 2017 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Act, first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
