The Police have arrested a 22-year-old man for his suspected involvement in two cases of motorcycle.

On 23 February 2017, two separate cases of motorcycle thefts were reported in Yishun and Ang Mo Kio. In both cases, the victims left their motorcycles at the parking lot before attending to their personal matters. Upon returning back to the parking lots, their motorcycles were missing.

Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of Police Cameras (POLCAM), officers from Ang Mo Kio Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him on 25 February 2017 at French Road. The two stolen motorcycles were recovered; helmets and keys were seized as case exhibits.

The suspect will be charged in State Court on 27 February 2017 with the offence of Theft of Motor Vehicle under Section 379A of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he faces a maximum jail term of 7 years and shall also be liable to a fine.

The Police would like to advise all motorcycle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

a)    Park your motorcycle in well-lit areas;

b)    Install an anti-theft alarm for your motorcycle;

c)    Use a motorcycle canvas to cover the motorcycle, securing both ends;

d)    Use additional locking devices such as disc brake locks or install a suspension guard; and

e)    Remove the ignition key and lock the motorcycle, whenever it is left unattended
