The Police Coast Guard (PCG) has arrested a 32-year-old man for unlawful entry into Singapore on 27 February 2017.

 

On 27 February 2017 at about 9.55pm, in collaboration with officers from the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), PCG detected a floating object believed to be a swimmer heading towards Singapore. Following the detection, both land and sea resources were deployed swiftly to arrest the suspect.

       

Under the Immigration Act (Cap 133), the penalties for overstaying or illegal entry are a jail term of up to six months plus a minimum of three strokes of the cane, while the penalties for illegal departure is a fine of up to $2,000, a jail term of up to six months, or both.
