The Police have arrested three men and one woman aged between 22 and 31 for their suspected involvement in two separate cases of loansharking activities.

Between 23 and 26 February 2017, the Police received reports that residential units at Taman Ho Swee and Lorong 1 Toa Payoh had been splashed with paint. Both units were also locked with a bicycle chain and loanshark-related graffiti were found scrawled on the walls near the affected units. Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Tanglin Division established the identity of the 4 suspects and arrested them in various locations at Telok Blangah, Loyang Way and Upper Serangoon View on 1 March 2017. Preliminary investigations revealed that these suspects are believed to be involved in loanshark harassment cases islandwide.

The suspects will be charged in Court on 3 March 2017 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). First-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years and shall also be liable to a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory caning of not less than 3 and not more than 6 strokes.
