52-Year-Old Man Arrested for Attempted Aggravated Rape and Robbery with Hurt

The Police have arrested a 52-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of Attempted Aggravated Rape and a case of Robbery with Hurt.

 

On 12 March 2017 at about 12.50pm, Police received a report from a 27-year-old female victim who informed that an unknown man had covered her face with a towel and pushed her into a hotel room along Orchard Road. Following a struggle, the unknown man fled the room.

 

While investigations for the first case were ongoing, Police received a second report on the same day at about 5.53pm from a 48-year-old female victim, informing that an unknown man who had entered a lift with her at a shopping outlet along Orchard Road had used a towel to cover her face and attempted to grab her handbag. After a struggle, the unknown man fled with the victim’s mobile phone.

 

Through investigative probes and enquiries, officers from Tanglin Division, the  Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Police Intelligence Department (PID) established the identity of the suspect and arrested him within 24 hours of the first report.

 

The suspect will be charged in Court on 15 March 2017 with the offences of Attempted Aggravated Rape under Section 375(3)(a) read with Section 511 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 and Robbery with Hurt under Section 394 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224.

 

Director CID (Covering), Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Sekher Warrier, said, The aggravated nature of the case necessitated swift investigative actions from the onset, resulting in us cracking the case expeditiously.”
