The Police have arrested two Malaysian men for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

 

Between 13 and 16 March 2017, the Police received several reports on loanshark harassments where residents units at Hougang, Sembawang and Ang Mo Kio were splashed with paint. Through extensive ground enquiries and viewing of footages from Police Cameras, officers from Ang Mo Kio Division established the identities of the suspects and arrested them at Woodlands Checkpoint on 21 March 2016.

 

The suspects will be charged in Court on 23 March 2017 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
