The Police have arrested two men, aged 53 and 28 for their suspected involvement in two separate cases of loanshark harassment.

 

In the first case, between 13 and 16 March 2017 there were several cases of loanshark harassment at Hougang, Sembawang and Ang Mo Kio areas. The HDB residential units were splashed with paint and loanshark-related graffiti. Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of Police Cameras (POLCAMs), officers from Ang Mo Kio and Jurong Division managed to establish the identity of the 53-year-old suspect and arrested him along Redhill Close on 24 March 2016.

 

In the second case, on 6 March 2017 there was a case of loanshark harassment at Sembawang Close whereby a bicycle lock was secured to the gate of the residential unit. Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of POLCAMs, officers from Ang Mo Kio Division established the identity of the 28-year-old suspect and arrested him along Hougang Street 51 on 24 March 2016.

 

The two suspects will be charged in Court on 25 March 2017 under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010). First time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
