Man Arrested for Using his Former Residential Address to Obtain Loan from Loansharks

The Police have arrested a 51-year-old man for providing false contact information to obtain loans from loansharks.

On 17 March 2017 at about 6.14pm, a woman reported to the Police that her family has been harassed by a loanshark who was looking for her ex-tenant. Preliminary investigations revealed that the ex-tenant had used his former residential address when obtaining loans from loansharks in February, thus causing the family to be harassed. On 23 March 2017, officers from Jurong Division arrested the ex-tenant along Choa Chu Kang Street 52.

Investigations against the ex-tenant are ongoing. Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), any person who is guilty of providing false contact information to obtain loans from loansharks shall be liable upon conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months.
