The Police have arrested a 37-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of theft from vehicles.
On 25 December 2016, the Police received a report informing that a cashcard had been stolen from his car along Butterfly Avenue.
Through extensive follow up investigations, officers from Tanglin Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him along Cantonment Road on 29 March 2017. The suspect is believed to be involved in more than a hundred other similar cases of thefts island-wide.
The suspect will be charged in Court on 31 March 2017 with the offence of Theft under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 If convicted, he faces an imprisonment term which may extend to 3 years or with fine, or with both.
To prevent theft from vehicles, the Police would like to advise vehicle owners to adopt the following precautionary measures:

Install an anti-theft alarm system;

Do not leave cash and valuables such as cashcards, laptops, handphones, briefcase or wallets in your vehicle;

Lock all vehicle doors and wind up all windows when vehicle is parked, even if it is for a short while;

Park your vehicle in well-lit areas; and
-
Look around the vicinity for suspicious characters before leaving. If you see any suspicious characters, take note of their appearance, attire, height, or any other distinctive physical features and inform the Police for assistance. Do not confront them.
