The Police have arrested a 55-year-old man for his suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

On 19 March 2017, the Police received a report on loanshark harassment at a HDB unit at Pasir Ris Drive 4 where loanshark-related graffiti was found scrawled on the wall of the staircase landing and lift lobby. Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police Cameras (POLCAMs), officers from Bedok Division arrested the suspect along Tampines Street 86 on 30 March 2017.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to be involved in several cases of loanshark harassment islandwide.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 1 April 2017 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act, first-time offenders found guilty of committing loanshark harassment shall be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years, a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000, and shall also be liable to be punished with not less than three strokes of the cane.
