Man Arrested for Providing False Contact Information to Obtain Loans

The Police have arrested a 48-year-old man for providing false contact information to obtain loans from loansharks.

On 2 April 2017, a woman reported to the Police that she had been harassed by a loanshark who was looking for her former house occupant to demand the repayment of loans which the latter took. Preliminary investigations revealed that the male suspect had used his former residential address when obtaining loans from loansharks since January 2017, thus causing the complainant to be harassed. On 5 April 2017, through follow-up investigations, officers from Jurong Division arrested the suspect in the vicinity of Bukit Batok East Ave 4.

Investigations against the suspect are ongoing. Under the Moneylenders Act (2010 Revised Edition), any person who is found guilty of providing false contact information to obtain loans from loansharks shall be liable upon conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months.
