The Police have arrested a 70-year-old man for the offences of causing Public Nuisance and Voluntarily Causing Hurt.
On 21 April 2017 at 3.59 pm, the Police received a report where a man had repeatedly used offensive language and also assaulted a commuter on board an MRT train.
Through extensive follow up investigations by officers from Ang Mo Kio Division, the identity of the suspect was established and he was arrested along Ang Mo Kio Ave 1 on the same day at about 10pm. Investigations against the suspect are ongoing.
Anyone convicted with the offence of Public Nuisance under Section 290 of the Penal Code may be punished with a fine which may extend to $1,000/-. Anyone convicted with the offence of Voluntarily Causing Hurt under Section 323 of the Penal Code may be punished with imprisonment term which may extend to 2 years, or with fine which may extend to $5,000/-, or with both.
