Public-Spirited Members of The Public Assisted In Arrest of Youth for Robbery

The Police have arrested a 16-year-old youth for his suspected involvement in a case of Robbery with assistance from 3 members of the public.

On 14 May 2017 at about 2.41 a.m., the suspect was believed to have punched a 58-year-old male victim and robbed him of his camera after they agreed to meet up for a transaction involving a camera along Bedok Road.

3 members of the public, Mr Chan Seang You, Ms Goh Kai Xian, Kammy and another woman noticed the commotion and immediately chased after the suspect. The trio eventually managed to detain the suspect and handed him to the Police. They have played an important role in the speedy arrest of the suspect.

Investigations against the suspect are ongoing. The offence of Robbery under Section 392 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 is punishable with imprisonment for a term of not less than 2 years and not more than 10 years, and shall also be punished with caning with not less than 6 strokes; and if the robbery is committed after 7 p.m. and before 7 a.m. the offender shall be punished with imprisonment for a term of not less than 3 years and not more than 14 years and shall also be punished with caning with not less than 12 strokes.
