The Police have arrested a 41-year-old man who is believed to be involved in multiple cases of employment scams.
Between January and March 2017, the Police received several reports of employment scams. The victims had responded to advertisements posted on Facebook by the suspect, offering them or their family, jobs in Singapore. The victims had given more than $30,000 to the suspect. However, the suspect did not deliver on his promise to recommend jobs and subsequently became uncontactable.
Following the reports, officers from Central Police Division conducted extensive follow-up investigations to establish the identity of the suspect and arrested him on 29 June 2017.
Investigations against the suspect are ongoing. Anyone found guilty of Cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, may be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 10 years, and shall also be liable to fine.
