The Police have arrested two men aged 20 and 24 for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

 

On 3 July 2017, the Police received a call informing that the gate of a residential unit in Blk 124 Pasir Ris Street 11, was found locked with a bicycle lock, and there were loanshark-related graffiti scribbled on the walls next to the unit.

 

Through extensive follow-up investigations, officers from Bedok Division established the identities of the suspects. The 24-year-old suspect was arrested along Selegie Road on 4 July 2017. The 20-year-old suspect was arrested in the vicinity of Cantonment Road on 5 July 2017.

 

Preliminary investigations revealed that the two suspects are believed to have carried out several acts of harassment in Pasir Ris and Tampines housing estates.

 

Both suspects will be charged in Court on 6 July 2017. Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years, and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
