The Police are investigating three men, aged between 19 to 24, who are believed to have provided false information.

On 1 July 2017 at about 11.35 pm, a 24-year-old man called the Police, alleging that his worker was beaten up and robbed of cash by three unknown men.

Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division detected several inconsistencies during the course of investigation. It was eventually established that the 24-year-old man and his two 19-year-old workers had provided false information to the Police.

Investigations against the three men are ongoing. Anyone convicted for giving any information which he or she knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.

The Police would like to remind the public that Police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false Police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
