The Police have arrested a 49-year-old man for the offences of Possession of an Arm without License, Rash Act, Mischief and Possession of a Dangerous Instrument.
On 1 July 2017, the Police were alerted that two cars were damaged at the service road along Woodlands Ave 6. It was believed that the damages on the cars were caused by the impact from projectiles fired at the cars
Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Jurong Police Division managed to establish the identity of the suspect and he was arrested along Woodlands Circle on 19 July 2017. Two packets of ball bearings, a bottle of plastic pellets, a packet of slingshot bands, a catapult, and a toy tank which is able to shoot projectiles were seized as case exhibits. Investigations are ongoing.
Airsoft guns or any other guns which shoot pellets using compressed gas are regulated as ‘arms’ under the Arms & Explosives Act. No person, unless authorised by a Licence to Possess Arms, shall have in his possession or under his control any of such guns. Under Section 13(3) of the Arms and Explosives Act, any person who, in contravention of this section, has in his possession or under his control any gun without license shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $5,000 for every such gun and to imprisonment for a term which may extend to 3 years.
It is also an offence for anyone to import or export any arms or explosives or any parts of arms or explosives without a license. Anyone caught doing this may be prosecuted in Court for an offence of importing or exporting any arms or explosives under section 13 (1) of the Arms & Explosives Act, Chapter 13. If convicted, the offender will be liable to imprisonment not exceeding 3 years and shall be fined up to S$10,000.
If convicted for Rash Act under the Penal Code, the suspect shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 6 months, or with fine which may extend to $2,500, or with both; For the offence of Mischief under the Penal Code, the suspect shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 2 years, or with fine, or with both; Under the Miscellaneous Offences Act, anyone convicted for possessing a Dangerous Instrument shall be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years.
