The Police have arrested a 25-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of cheating cases.

In these cases, the suspect would persuade the victims to sign up for mobile lines, coupled with handphones, in exchange for returns of S$100/- or S$150/- cash. The suspect assured the victims that the mobile lines would be terminated immediately within a month with no charges to be incurred by the victims. After receiving the handphones from the victims, the suspect would sell them away at second-hand handphone shops for profit and became uncontactable. The suspect also did not terminate the lines, thus saddling the victims with phone bills.

The Police received multiple reports between June and July 2017. Through extensive ground enquiries and follow-up investigations, officers from the Ang Mo Kio Division established the identity of the suspect and arrested him along Wishart Road on 21 July 2017. Items such as sim cards, handphone and cash were seized for investigations.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 22 July 2017 with the offence of Cheating which is punishable with an imprisonment term which may extend to 10 years, and shall also be liable to fine.
