The Police have arrested a 48-year-old Singaporean man for his suspected involvement in a case of Armed Robbery at a petrol station along Upper Bukit Timah Road.

On 31 July 2017 at about 12.50pm, a staff of the petrol station reported to the Police that the petrol station had been robbed.  The suspect was armed with a knife, and ordered the staff to place cash from the cash register into a plastic bag.  He then fled on a motor scooter.  More than S$1100/- was stolen.

Following the report, officers from Clementi Police Division conducted extensive ground enquiries based on the information provided by witnesses who had remained calm throughout the incident. The identity of the suspect was subsequently established. He was swiftly arrested on the same day at about 4.50pm along Jurong East Street 21.  Cash amounting to $499, bank receipts and a motor scooter were seized as evidence.

The suspect will be charged in Court on 2 August 2017 with an offence of Armed Robbery under Section 392 read with Section 397 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224.  If convicted, he faces imprisonment for a term of not less than 2 years and not more than 10 years, and shall also be punished with caning with not less than 12 strokes.

Commander of Clementi Police Division, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr Gerald Lim, said “This case was solved expeditiously with assistance of the public, and highlight the importance of collaboration between the Police and the community in combating crime. The Police do not tolerate such brazen acts and will spare no effort to bring these criminals to justice.  This case highlights the importance of working with the community to solve crime, as every little help counts. I also commend my officers for their quick investigation follow-up, and skillful investigation techniques.”
