On 30 July 2017, the Police Coast Guard (PCG) arrested eight men, aged between 26 and 54, for illegal sale of twenty metric tonnes of Marine Gas Oil (MGO) which has a market value of S$12,840.

 

On 30 July 2017 at about 10.19 am, information was received about an illegal sale of MGO at the sea off Jurong Shipyard. PCG officers followed up and conducted investigations on a Singapore registered tugboat with eight crew members on board. It was revealed that the crew members had sold twenty Metric tonnes of MGO to the crew of another foreign registered tugboat. The crew members were arrested and cash amounting to S$9,000 was seized.

 

The eight men will be charged in Court on 1 August 2017 for the offence of Criminal Breach of Trust as Servant punishable under section 408 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, they shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 15 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.

 

Commander of the Police Coast Guard, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SAC) Hsu Sin Yun praised his officers for their excellent work which resulted in the swift arrest. He added that PCG will spare no efforts and continue to step up enforcement against such offenders.
