The Police have arrested two men, aged 29, for their suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment.

 

On 27 July 2017, Police received a report that a unit at along Yishun Avenue 6 was splashed with white paint. Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identities of the suspects and arrested them on 27 and 31 July.

 

Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects is believed to be a runner who had committed harassment on behalf of an unlicensed moneylender and he will be charged in Court on 1 August 2017 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.

 

Investigations against the other suspect is still ongoing.
