The Police have arrested a 19-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of loanshark harassment cases.

 

On 17 July 2017, the Police received several reports of loanshark harassment where residential units were chained with bicycle locks and splashed with paint. Through extensive ground enquiries and investigations by officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Bedok Police Division and Jurong Police Division, the identity of the suspect was established and he was arrested along St George’s Lane on 2 August 2017.

 

The suspect will be charged in Court on 4 August 2017 under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition). Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
