The Police have arrested two men, aged 18 and 19, for their suspected involvement in a case of Housebreaking and Theft by Night along Dunbar Walk.

On 4 August 2017 at about 3.50pm, the Police received a report from a 44-year-old female victim informing that her sliding door was ajar and her vehicle parked within her house compound had been ransacked. Through extensive enquiries and with the aid of CCTV footages, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identities of the suspects and arrested them along Jurong West Street 41 on 5 August 2017 at about 10.30pm.

Investigations against the suspects are ongoing. The offence of Housebreaking and Theft by Night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, carries an imprisonment term of not less than 2 years and not more than 14 years, and shall also be liable to fine.

The Police would like to advise all home owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Secure all doors, windows and other openings with good quality grills and close-shackled padlocks before retiring to bed or when leaving your home, even for a short while;

  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash and valuables at home; and

  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor lights and/or close circuit surveillance cameras to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.

  • If you are staying in a landed property, keep your vehicles locked even if they are parked within your house compound.
