The Police are investigating a 52-year-old man for lodging a false report that his vehicle was stolen.
On 16 August 2017 at about 5.15pm, the man lodged a report stating that his car, which was parked along Tampines Street 81, was stolen.
Through extensive enquiries and follow-up investigations, it is believed that the man had earlier abandoned the car along Seletar Aerospace Link Road while under the influence of alcohol. He then lodged a police report claiming that the car was stolen to disclaim liabilities.
Investigations are ongoing. Anyone who is convicted for giving any information which he knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.
The Police would like to remind the public that Police resources can be put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigate false reports or false information. Those who lodge false Police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
