The Police have arrested a 19-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of Loanshark Harassment at a residential unit in Blk 642A Punggol Drive.

 

On 17 August 2017, the Police received a report that loanshark related notes were placed on the unit’s gate and paint was splashed on to the unit. Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the suspect.  He was subsequently arrested on 25 August 2017 along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3.

 

The suspect will be charged in Court on 26 August 2017 under the Moneylenders Act. Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and mandatory caning of up to 6 strokes.
